I spent the first 4 years out of high school in the Navy where I trained to be an Aviation Hydraulics Mechanic. I spent a majority of my time working on EA-6B Prowlers and a very short time working on P-3 Orions. I married the wonderful Molly in 1997 and we added to our family in 2008 and 2011. Since then I have been a stay at home dad so Molly could pursue her career in Army medicine. That is what brought us to Fort Hood.
How did you get interested in Crossfit?
I got interested in Crossfit from watching the Games on TV and talking to a few people who had been taking classes. Everyone I spoke to had nothing but great things to say about it. I finally found a box close to home and decided it was time to give it a try. I have not looked back since.
When your motivation is down, how do you find the drive to get up and come in?
I think one of the things that gets me into the gym when I don't want to is knowing I am not the only one who is struggling. If they are there than I should be too. Josh doesn't hurt either. Everyone knows if they bail on a class Josh will be right there asking where you were.
What is your least favorite movement?
My least favorite movement is a toss up between burpees and thrusters I know they are good exercises but I sure hate to see them in the workouts.
What is the next goal you hope to reach with Crossfit Cataclysm.
My next goal is competing in a team/partner competition next year. Cataclysm is going to help me improve to the point where I am confident in my abilities to compete.
What would you say to someone that has never tried CrossFit and looking to get started? Any tips or Advice?
I would tell anyone interested in trying crossfit to give it at least a month. It will be difficult at first but after about a month everything starts to come together. Who am I kidding, after 2 years it is still difficult. But, it is difficult now because I am able to push myself harder than I thought possible. What a great feeling. It is also at that point that good friendships have begun to form.
