This month was are celebrating the hard earned success of one of our members, Jennifer Batts. We know you've seen Jennifer around the gym and probably noticed her fitness transformation over these lest few months. Since the beginning of March she's lost 28 lbs., pretty much through clean eating and exercise. The progress she's made is huge, but it's even more amazing because just a few short months ago Jennifer was unable to exercise at all due to a foot surgery.
We sat down with Jennifer and asked her a few questions about her life and time at Catclysm. Here's what she said:
Q. Tell us about your background and how long you've been in the area.
Jennifer: I'm originally from the Ft. Worth area, and my whole family is still there. My husband John is in the military, and we've been moving around since 2006. We've been in Harker Heights for the last two years.
Q. How did you end up at CrossFit Cataclysm?
Jennifer: I was a member of the Field House Gym and worked out there whenever I could. But I always had an interest in trying CrossFit, so when Josh started having classes there I got involved.
Q. What do you like about CrossFit?
Jennifer: There are two reasons why I love CrossFit and our gym. 1) I love that the workouts are different every day. That keeps me challenged and coming back excited each day. 2) I love the community. It's a ton of fun to workout with great people- people who support you in and out of the gym.
Q. What about during tough times? When the WODs are hard or you don't feel like working out? What makes you push through?
Jennifer: I know that the WODs help me both physically AND mentally. Regularly exercise gives me mental clarity, self-confidence and the energy to do what I need to do in life. Knowing that, I'm able to talk myself into working out.
Q. Do you have any advice for new members or people just trying CrossFit for the first time?
Jennifer: To push through the suck- seriously! It gets so much better quickly, and persistence really pays in CrossFit. The more classes you come to the easier it gets.
Q. You've been with Josh a while now. Do you have any favorite "Josh-isms" to share with us?
Jennifer: Well, one day it was an all girls class and we had to run for the warmup. We were all talking as usual, so he walked over to get our attention and said loudly: "It's time to hit the street, ladies." That phrase sounds like he wanted us to work the streets, not run our warmup. To this day I think that's funny.
The other one that I love is: "I remember when I didn't want to be better," but he doesn't appreciate that one when we give it back to him. :)
