We love having Christina as a member of this community and an inspiration for us all. Here’s our interview with her:
Can you tell us a bit about you?
I grew up here in the Harker Heights/Killeen area, but I'm not military. When I'm not doing CrossFit, you can find me reading, crocheting, playing video games, or watching hockey.
How did you get started in CrossFit?
Well, I had been interested in trying CrossFit for a while, but was a little scared to try it. I used to be a long distance runner and had no weight lifting experience. One day Josh came into my office wearing a CrossFit Cataclysm shirt and I asked him about it. He invited me to a Wine and WOD community WOD happening later that week. I went, didn't make it past the warm-up, and signed up for the 101 class that weekend. I have loved it ever since.
What keeps you motivated when WODs are hard or you don’t feel like working out?
I think back to when I first started CrossFit and remember how far I've come in a couple of months. I keep pushing, knowing that it'll help make me stronger. When I don't feel like working out, I show up anyways because after I finish the WOD I feel awesome (even after some of the harder WODs). I still struggle occasionally, but I'm getting better at fighting through the sticky spots and my confidence is much higher than when I first started.
Do you have any advice for someone starting out in CrossFit?
Don't give up! Yes, it will be tough and it will hurt, but keep with it! Oh, and definitely listen to the coaches. They know what they are talking about. If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask. I ask questions all the time. Also, listen to your body. That is one of the biggest things I have learned since starting CrossFit. You can do more than what you think you can, but you don't want to push yourself to injury. If your body needs an extra day of rest, take it.
What would you put on your ideal workout playlist?
Definitely 80's music! I also like some 90's and 00's music, but 80's music is my favorite to listen to when I'm working out.
